Registering QQ

If you want to use QQ, you must first register a QQ number. There are two registration pages:

http://signup.qq.com

The most simple, everything is in English. You will have to change your details after you finish creating an account if you want people to add you though.

http://freeqq2.qq.com

This registration page is all in Chinese, and may be a little difficult if you are just a beginner. Try to use the QQTranslator on this website to translate the words you don't know.

If you get an error message now (the penguin will say SORRY), translate the error message using this website's translator, and go back and try again.

Sometimes you will get an error telling you that too many people are trying to register a QQ number. If this happens to you, delete your browser's history and cookies, change your IP address, and try again.

If you don't get an error message, great! Copy down your QQ number (It's in big red font). You can now install QQ and start chatting!

Allowing people to search for you

Chatting by yourself is boring!! You need to set your QQ details to say that you live in a foreign country. If this is not done properly, no-one will add you on QQ.

Select your 国家 (country) from the list. Select 其他的国家, then enter your country name. In reality, the QQ search feature doesn't use this (because this program was originally designed for china only), so you can put whatever you want here.

Enter your 省份 (provence / state). If you put "国外" here, (foreign country) many chinese people will add you. If you don't want people adding you every 1 or 2 minutes, then don't put 国外!! Put the name of your provence/state instead.

Enter your 城市 (city). Like above, if you want many people to add you, put your country name (in chinese) here. I put down 澳大利亚 (Australia)! Put it in chinese. If you don't want people to add you randomly, just put down your city (English or Chinese)
